Back pain physiotherapy
What is the best treatment for back pain?
Most back pain can be treated with physiotherapy, without surgery. Treatment at UR Physio Clinic starts with an assessment to find the cause, followed by hands-on manual therapy, a personalised exercise plan and posture advice.
Back pain, or kamar dard, can start after a sudden movement, long hours at a desk or on a two-wheeler, or lifting at work or home — or it can build up slowly over months. The clinic in Murlipura Scheme is run by female physiotherapist Dr. Suman Choudhary (BPT), who assesses and treats every patient personally.

Causes
Why does back pain happen?
Back pain usually comes from a mix of posture, load and weak supporting muscles rather than one single event. Finding the cause is what makes treatment work — and helps stop the pain from coming back.
Back pain with fever, numbness in the groin, loss of bladder or bowel control, or increasing leg weakness needs a doctor’s attention first. See the warning signs below.
- Long hours of sitting, screen time and slouching
- Lifting with a bent back, or a sudden twist
- Weak core and hip muscles, and low activity
- Disc bulge or slip disc pressing on a nerve
- Age-related changes in the spine
- Long rides on a two-wheeler or poor mattress support
How treatment works
How physiotherapy treats back pain
Assessment
History, examination and any X-ray or MRI reports are reviewed to identify the likely cause of pain.
Manual therapy
Joint mobilisation, soft-tissue release and gentle stretching to reduce tightness and ease movement.
Exercise therapy
Core, back and hip strengthening, taught in the clinic so it can be done correctly at home.
Posture & prevention
Advice on sitting, sleeping, lifting and work set-up to keep the pain from returning.
The number of sessions depends on the cause and how long the pain has been present, and is discussed after the assessment. Recent back pain often needs fewer sessions than long-standing pain.

Questions
Back pain physiotherapy FAQs
Can physiotherapy cure back pain without surgery?
Most back pain improves with physiotherapy and does not need surgery. Physiotherapy reduces pain, restores movement and strengthens the muscles that support the spine. Surgery is usually considered only for severe nerve compression, or when conservative treatment has not helped; your doctor will advise if this applies to you.
How many physiotherapy sessions are needed for back pain?
It depends on the cause, how long you have had the pain and your general health. Recent back pain often needs fewer sessions than long-term pain. An estimate is given after the first assessment and reviewed as you improve.
Is physiotherapy better than painkillers for kamar dard?
Painkillers can ease pain for a short time but do not treat the cause. Physiotherapy works on posture, muscle strength and movement, which helps reduce pain and lowers the chance of it returning. Take any medicine only as advised by your doctor.
Do I need an MRI before starting physiotherapy for back pain?
Not always. Most back pain can be assessed and treated without an MRI. If your symptoms suggest a nerve or disc problem that needs a scan, you will be advised to consult a doctor.
Can I do exercises at home for back pain?
Yes, and home exercises are an important part of recovery. It is best to start them after an assessment, because the right exercise depends on the cause of your pain; the wrong exercise can sometimes make pain worse.
Is there a female physiotherapist for back pain in Murlipura?
